SBA News

2008 Arts Trail

The sixth Southbank Bristol Arts Trail will take place on 10 and 11 May 2008. You can register now by downloading the SBA membership form (Word document, 95 KB) and Arts Trail 2008 participation form (Word document, 84.5 KB).

These forms allow you to become a member of the Southbank Bristol Arts (SBA) organisation and sign up to participate in the Arts Trail. You need to register as member of the SBA each year to join in with the Arts Trail.

The registration fee also permits you to have an account on the SBA website, allowing you to post web log (blog) entries whenever you like and to have an Artist details page, where you can present a description of your art, performance, etc. and illustrate this with an image. See the Member benefits page for more details of the benefits of being an SBA member.

The registration fee for becoming a member of the SBA remains at £15 for 2008. If you have any queries, please phone Janine on 07742 740 642 or email communication@sbaweb.co.uk.

AGM Wednesday 7 November 2007

You are invited to attend our AGM. Information about the venue and times will be in the next newsletter, but please put this date in your diaries now.

With many current members of the organising committee of the SBA stepping down or taking a back seat in 2008 you are needed to fill the vacant roles and take the organisation forward into a new year.

You will be receiving a personal invitation in the post in September.

"Homecoming" - Last Call for Submissions for this SBA Open Exhibition

Southbank Bristol Arts are pleased to invite all creative people in the Bristol area to submit works for inclusion in an exhibition about 'Homecoming' to be held at The Grant Bradley Gallery, Bedminster from 26 October to 22 November 2007.

All work should respond to the varied meanings of 'Home' (see brief on application). There will be a single submission fee of £10 (£8 concessionary rate for current SBA members) which will entitle you to submit up to 3 works.

We would like to see all the creative arts included in this exhibition and therefore hope to get entries from musicians, animators, film makers and performers as well as artists and makers. There will be facilities to show film and audio works.

The deadline for submissions will be 5 pm on 14 September 2007. Selected exhibitors will be notified at the beginning of October.

Prizes will be awarded at the Private View on Friday 26 October, 7 to 9 pm.

Submission guidelines and application forms will be available from Monday 16 July 2007 either from The Grant Bradley Gallery, downloadable from the Homecoming page (on this website) or via communication@sbaweb.co.uk or from Barbara Gallati, 44 Alpha Road, Southville, Bristol, BS3 1DH. Alternatively, phone 01179 532 641.

Go on and get creative - please pass this on to anyone you know who is in this age group if you are not eligible yourself. For more information or to apply online go to the 'Symbolife or Art?' competition page. The registration fee is only £3 and the deadline is 15 September 2007.

The Awning Project - exhibition opportunities

The site provides an exciting opportunity to show work at a unique waterside venue in the centre of Bristol. There is no rental charge and only 15% commission on sales. Please see the Awning Project website for more details and information on last year's project or email the project manager, Tony Smith for more information.

Wotartist - Promote your website online

Artists working in all genres who own a website to promote their work are invited to apply to be listed on Wotartist, an online artists website directory. Listing is by a selection process and only the most original and diverse sites will be listed. Other benefits include each artist selected being given an option ecard which contains a link to their website. Complete the online form on the Wotartist website. Deadline 24 December 2007.

Bristol Creatives

Bristol Creatives creates opportunities for existing creative groups and individuals can meet and exchange information and ideas. To do this they need you to join their organisation. Creating a page in their Creative Directory is easy and for those without their own websites it offers the opportunity to put up to 8 images on their site for no charge. If you desire, you can also add information about yourself, including contact information and website links if you do have your own website (or why not link to your SBA blog or Artist details?!).

A 'central sorting office' - a one stop shop for creative people and organisations - is sorely needed in Bristol and this could be it. For further information visit the website or email Sally Reay at Bristol East Side Traders.
