Your Arts Trail Needs YOU

People in St. Pauls' Crypt

Imagine, if you will, a warm sunny Saturday in May (I know, but stay with me) and you're at a loose end. The birds are singing, the trees look great, and there's a lovely light breeze. Perfect for a walk. You think to yourself, “I'd like to go out. Hey, I'll go to the SBA Arts Trail!"

You reach for the Pigeon, and scour through it. No Arts Trail mentioned here. Same in Venue. Where has the Arts Trail gone? Is it not happening this year? Oh no! What happened?

Come join our Facebook Group!

It seems like everybody is joining Facebook these days, and despite the fact that there are some annoying aspects it can be a very useful way of keeping in touch. Now, I know we have the website and all, but we don't all have the time in our busy days to keep checking back here.  Well, with Facebook there is a solution to all of this. Join our group on Facebook, we are at: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2398319245. It is free to join Facebook, so why not dive in? Read more →

standing for chair of the sba

At the last SBA steering meeting quite a lot of people announced that they would step down, at least for the next year, from the SBA steering group. This leaves a vacuum that feels quite ominous, and there were suggestions that unless key positions were filled at the AGM, maybe the trail next year should or could not go ahead. At that meeting I proposed that I stand for vice-chair, and suggestions were made that it was not ambitious enough. I have therefore thought long and hard about this and have decided that I would like to run for chair of the SBA at the AGM.

design a shed

TheSpotBrief

This competition - now closed (link to gallery) was open for people to design a replacement for the traditional garden shed. I wondered if we might "borrow" the idea and have a similar garden shed or outside space competition as part of next year's arts trail. It might bring out the architect inside all of us. What do you think?

analogue video

Tumblers on a trampoline enact "analogue" video editing...

Apparently all done in one take with no editing and no errors, except the one in the middle which was planned.

Photos of the Trail and Performance Week 2007

This years trail was as ever a success, despite the best efforts of the rain. Thousands of people turned out over the two days of the trail to walk around Southville, Bedminster and Ashton to see work by local artists exhibited in their own homes or in local galleries and shops. And the following Performance Week was similarly popular. For people who weren't lucky enough to get around and see it all for themselves we managed to get an army of valiant volunteers to wander around and photograph it for you. The rather fine results you can see in all their glory on Flickr in a special group set up just for this purpose. http://www.flickr.com/groups/sbaartstrail007/pool/show/

Thanks to all the photographers who took part and uploaded pictures to the group!

Last year a dedicated team of photographers wandered around the Arts Trail snapping away at the people having fun looking at all the art on display. The results were a fantastic collection of images that showed the diversity of art on display as well as being a unique record of the weekend.
