Southbank Bristol Arts (SBA) was launched in October 2004. The aims of the organisation then and now are to organise and promote the annual Arts Trail and to be a driving force behind a whole manner of arts and performance initiatives in the areas of Southville, Bedminster and Ashton.
Links to pages detailing current or recent events can be found on the menus on the left of the page. Details of other events (including, and since, the 2007 Arts Week) can be found on the Past events page.
Some confusion has arisen recently regarding the relationship between the Southbank Bristol Arts organisation and the Southbank Club. The Southbank Club is the reinvention of the "Holy Cross" Working Mans Club, on Dean Lane in Southville. The club changed owners, and its name, in late 2007. It still retains much of its original flavour but is currently being redeveloped to include a new programme of live music, dance, cinema, theatre, etc.
Although the names seem similar of the two organisations, they remain separate entities with no link whatsoever.
At this year’s AGM the following structure and roles were agreed upon:
Role: Internal communication within SBA and with artists, performers and specialist groups.
Role: To design, maintain and update the website/members database and advise on IT solutions.
Role: To fundraise on behalf of the SBA: devise and manage fundraising initiatives as well as grant applications.
Role: Primarily to produce graphics/promotional material (posters, flyers). Oversee press/marketing where appropriate.
Role: To help plan and co-ordinate SBA performance based events (music, theatre, poetry, etc.).
